The owner today, Spunky Miss Phyllis, worked as a dishwasher during the summer when she was a teenager. She left Amboy after she married but returned to her hometown with her family and bought the restaurant in 1986. For 38 years, the Stepler Family has been serving their friends, family and occasional strangers (they never leave that way!). They are known for their homemade food, pies and fish fry. When the original diner burnt in 1994, the churches, businesses and community members insisted that they rebuild. Everyone pitched in the money, time, and materials to make it happen.
